TriCommunications Wireless Hotspots
The value of providing Wireless Internet access within various public locations (hotels, airports, pubs, coffee shops, community centers, etc.) has already been proven.
Mobile professionals now seek out establishments that provide Internet hotspots, so that they can remain in touch with all their office resources wherever they travel.
Casual users also increase their patronage of premises where they can obtain the service. Business owners and managers are quickly realising that hotspot-enabling their premises will help increase and retain customer visits, and generate an additional revenue stream for them (if they charge for the service). TriCommunications offers a range of Wireless HotSpot products.
What is a Wireless Hotspot
A wireless hotspot enables users with wireless-enabled laptop computers or PDAs within your premises to access the Internet, without the need for any networking cables or any other additional equipment. Internet access is 'transmitted' from a single broadband connection via one or more wireless access points throughout your building. The wireless card in a laptop or PDA automatically detects the closest hotspot, and when the web browser is opened, a screen is displayed that instructs the user on how to gain access. This is usually as simple as entering a username and password.
How does the system work?
A access point connects to the broadband connection, and distributes Internet access throughout your premises via a dedicated wireless network. Users are authorised to use the system, either on a fee-paying basis or free of charge.
Connection of further remote access points, wirelessly or via network cable, to increase the wireless access range to cover your entire premises. Full management of the service, in terms of access fees, security, username and password administration, etc.
What do I need?
The components of the TriCommunications HotSpot system are:
- A single low-cost broadband connection to the Internet. We will provide this if you do not already have one.
- The TriCommunications Access point that can be positioned at or near reception.
- One or more wireless antennae to provide full coverage within your entire premises.
Prior to installation, we will perform a site survey of your premises to determine the optimum number of access points and antennae that you will need to provide the desired coverage. For example, in a small premises where access is only provided within a single room, the central control box by itself will probably be sufficient to provide adequate wireless coverage. In a larger business, with several separate areas where coverage is needed, 4 or more remote access points may be needed to ensure reliable service provision.
